FAQ

  • How long does a custom project take?

Timeline varies by project complexity. Furniture pieces typically take 4-8 weeks, while kitchen cabinetry projects usually require 8-12 weeks. I'll provide timeline estimates as part of our consultation process.

  • Do you provide design services?

Absolutely. Design consultation is included in every project. I work with you to create detailed drawings and select materials that bring your vision to life.

  • Can you work with my existing kitchen layout?

Yes, I can design custom cabinetry for any kitchen configuration. However, Maple Valley Woodworks is not a general contractor or renovation company. We specialize in fine furnishings and cabinetry, but will partner with your contractor for bigger renovation projects.

  • What types of wood do you use?

I work with a wide variety of domestic and exotic hardwoods, including maple, oak, cherry, walnut, and many others. Wood selection depends on your project needs, aesthetic preferences, and budget.

  • What kind of warranty do you provide?

All of my work comes with a 5-year warranty on craftsmanship and construction. I stand behind every piece I create.

  • How much do custom projects cost?

Investment varies significantly based on size, complexity, and materials. Being a truly custom shop, we can only provide estimates after our initial consultation.

  • Do you require payment upfront?

We typically request 25-50% down payment depending on the complexity and material selection prior to beginning detailed design and materials ordering.

  • Do you offer financing?

While we are not currently offering direct financing options, we can recommend financing partners who specialize in home improvement and furniture projects.

  • Do you handle installation?

Yes. Our professional installers will handle all installation to ensure your custom piece meets our quality standards.

  • What if something needs adjustment after installation?

Our goal is your complete satisfaction with both the piece and how it functions in your space. Wood is a living material that continues to respond to its environment even after installation. We provide guidance on what to expect during the first few months as your piece naturally adjusts to your home's unique humidity and temperature conditions. This settling process is normal and ensures the long-term stability of your custom piece. We always include a reasonable adjustment period with every piece.

  • Do you work outside your local area?

We primarily serve the greater central Iowa area, but are open to discussing projects anywhere in the continental US.

  • What's the first step?

Simply contact us to schedule your free consultation. We'll discuss your vision, tour your space, and answer any questions you have about the process.
